MNJAG show at the Northfield Arts Guild

The Northfield Arts Guild played host in February 2016 to our first juried gallery show. The jurors were well-known northern Minnesota jewelry designer, Stephan Höglund and Sivertson Gallery curator, Karissa Wrich. The jurors selected Mel Tudisco, Soren Priede, Susan Crow, Bridget Clark, Danny Saathoff, Ann Madland, Laura Stamper, Lindsay Locatelli, Beth Williams, and Lisa Phelps Havelin. Selected members were each given a pedestal and vitrine to design their own “micro-space” in any way they wished. Some of the selected artists took advantage of the gallery space to display their artwork other than jewelry. Mel Tudisco included her painted copper constructed wall sculptures. Lindsay Locatelli displayed some of her framed jewelry compositions on the wall and Danny Saathoff displayed a few of his kinetic and illuminated suspended sculptures.

The show opened to a boisterous and engaged crowd. The gallery was transformed into a beautiful space with the jewelry and artwork co-mingling seamlessly. Each participating artist was given a few minutes to talk about their work and Bridget Clark opened the talks with a lovely description of MNJAG’s mission and purpose. MNJAG’s decision to work with the Northfield Arts Guild broadens the reach of our organization beyond the boundary of the Twin Cities area and helps us raise awareness of the strength of the regional jewelry arts scene.
